Radio Frequency (RF) Welding or dielectric welding utilizes the chemical structure of polar plastics containing dipoles, or a separation of positive and negative charges.  The films to be bonded are then exposed to a high frequency, alternating electromagnetic field, which excite the dipoles in the plastic.  This high frequency exposure combined with heat and the application of pressure forms a strong, consistent bond.
